Hydrotherapy

Also known as aquatic physiotherapy, uses the unique properties of water to help people move more freely, safely, and confidently. For many community-based participants, it provides an effective pathway to rehabilitation and reablement when land-based exercise is painful, intimidating, or no longer appropriate.

Work with Us

At BodyRight Healthcare, hydrotherapy is delivered as a 1-on-1 allied health service, tailored to the individual needs, goals, and risks of each participant.

Hydrotherapy is particularly beneficial for clients who:

  • Experience chronic pain, arthritis, or joint stiffness
  • Are recovering from falls, surgery, or injury
  • Have neurological conditions (including Parkinson’s Disease)
  • Live with disability or reduced balance
  • Fatigue quickly with land-based exercise
  • Require a lower-impact, supported environment to move safely

For many clients, water provides the confidence to move again — often achieving gains that were not possible on land.

Hydrotherapy leverages the natural properties of water to support safe and effective movement:

  • Buoyancy reduces joint load and pain, making movement easier
  • Warm water promotes muscle relaxation and comfort
  • Graduated resistance allows controlled strengthening and balance work
  • Hydrostatic pressure supports circulation and postural control

This combination enables earlier movement, improved range of motion, and gradual strength building — without the fear of falling.

We provide individualised, clinically supervised hydrotherapy, not group classes.

Service delivery includes:

  • Comprehensive initial assessment by a Physiotherapist
  • Choice of Male or Female Practitioner
  • Individualised hydrotherapy program aligned to participant goals
  • Ongoing monitoring and progression
  • Integration with the participant’s broader care plan

Locations:

  • Box Hill
  • Templestowe
  • Waverley
  • Or Clayton

To ensure safety, GP clearance is required prior to commencement. This is particularly important for managing medical risks such as postural hypotension and cardiovascular considerations.

For clients:

  • Reduced pain and stiffness
  • Improved mobility, balance, and confidence
  • Increased participation in daily activities
  • Greater motivation and engagement in therapy

For Care Partners:

  • A safe alternative when land-based therapy isn’t suitable
  • Clear clinical oversight and documentation
  • Alignment with reablement and Support at Home principles
  • Reduced risk of falls and injury

Hydrotherapy services can be arranged following an initial assessment by a BodyRight Physiotherapist and delivered by either a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist.

If you’re supporting a participant who needs to move — but needs a safer way to do it — hydrotherapy may be the missing link.
